"Come and See": A Web Commentary on the Gospel of John: Section 4 Jesus in Samaria: the Living Water (Jn 4.1-42)

Section 4.1 Background (Jn 4.1-6)

41Then as the Lord knew that the Pharisees heard that Jesus was making more disciples and baptising people more than John -- 2although Jesus himself did not baptise but his disciples did -- 3he left Judaea and went again into Galilee. 4He had to pass through Samaria. 5Accordingly he came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the place that Jacob gave to his son Joseph; 6Jacob's spring1 was there. So then Jesus, tired from the journey, sat down at the well; it was about mid-day2.
