"Come and See": A Web Commentary on the Gospel of John: Section 3 New Beginnings
21And on the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee, and Jesus' mother was there. 2Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. 3And when the wine ran short Jesus' mother said to him, 'They have no wine.' 4[And] Jesus said to her, 'What is that to you and me1, ma'am? My hour is not yet here.' 5His mother said to the servants, 'Whatever he tells you, do it.' 6Now there were six stone water jars set there, suitable for the Jewish purification rites, holding two or three measures apiece. 7Jesus said to them, 'Fill the water jars with water.' And they filled them to the top. 8And he said to them, 'Now draw some water and take it to the steward.' So they brought it. 9Now when the steward tasted the water that had become wine and he did not know whence it came (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called out to the bridegroom and said to him, 10'Everyone first sets out the good wine and then worse wine when the guests are drunk. You have held back the good wine till now!' 11Jesus performed this, the beginning of the signs, and revealed his glory, and his disciples put their trust in him.
